POUND RIDGE PAST: REMEMBRANCES OF OUR TOWNSFOLK
Recollections Reveal What Life was Like in 20th Century Pound Ridge
(Pound Ridge, NY – August 15, 2006) -- Pound Ridge Past: Remembrances of Our Townsfolk is almost here! The book, by Bonni Brodnick, with photographs by Fran Collin, and graphic design by Gina Federico, is a collection of more than thirty first-person interviews with our town’s elders. There’s Malcolm Fancher on raising Aberdeen Angus at the family farm on Fancher Road in the 1920s; Carl Breuninger on going to a one-room schoolhouse (which is now the town library) in the 1930s; Ebie & Rich Wood on meeting in second grade, and their wonderful summer days of youth during the 1940s; Lois & Bob Bobletz on stars (the Hollywood/Broadway kind!) in Scotts Corners during the 1950s; Wilma Rogalin on the importance of volunteerism and fairness for women in the 1960s; Jack Zander on the literary/publishing/theatrical folks who lived (and partied) here in the 1970s, and many, many more. Also featured are contributed anecdotes from Pound Ridgers past and present, near and far (in Manhattan, Maine, and Chicago) , including Ari Fleischer, Skip Landt, Edward Lucas, Dick Major, Stefanie Tashkovich, Mark Russell, and Gloria Smith.
Pound Ridge Past: Remembrances of Our Townsfolk, which has been four years in the researching/interviewing/writing, has sold more than 300 advance copies in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia; and overseas in France, Mexico, and Switzerland. All profits from the first edition will be donated to the Pound Ridge Historical Society and Hiram Halle Memorial Library.
Enjoy the historical and personal recollections, that span from the rural 1920s to the swinging 1970s, in a book that truly reveals what life was like in 20th century Pound Ridge.
